A bit of a warning when working with foam insulation for a transmission
tunnel cover- it is highly flammable. If you ever get it hot enough to
melt or catch fire, you've got a problem on your hands. When burned or
melted, one of the byproducts of this material is cyanide gas. Yeah, that
nasty stuff that can be deadly.

In small amounts, you'll likely be fine, but it is something to consider.
The white 'beadboard' type of foam is most known for this. The dense foam
types (blue or pink house insulation) are not prone to this and are safer
for use. I cannot speak for expanding foam in a can.

This isn't to say don't use it. It can be quite handy.

You can lay down a layer of foam inside the tunnel cover from spray or
sheet, then carve it to fit. You'd want a small air gap to help get some
of the radiated heat vented from the surface. Covering that foam with the
popular foil bubble sheet would be a good combination utilizing the
properties of each material to their fullest.
