Concerning relays:

ONLY buy good quality relays, I have used Bosch (made in Germany or Mexico)
for several years with no failures.

All headlight relays have been standardised (and can be used to control
fans, horns etc)
They are usually rated, I think 35A is a standard rating.

There should be 4 or 5 connections numbers 30, 31, 85, 86 and 87.

The low voltage side should be connected to 30/31 and the high voltage to
85 and 86 or 87 (depending on the function of the relay.) BTW - I am writing
this from memory so I may have some of the numbers wrong but the Bosch
relays have a small diagram embossed in the relay cover.

I consider relays to be a safety item, on several occasions I have had my
main
beam suddenly go out during spirited driving in mountain roads. I swapped
out those silly Lucas metal relays before I killed myself.

hope this helps
