disconnect the wires from the generator, put a test light or volt meter on the 
large terminal of the generator, the light should light
up. Or the volt meter should read 18 volts.
Remember, the generator must be disconnected when checking output or you will 
get a reading from the battery.
If you have juice out of the generator, the regulator is bad.
Get a Jap alternator and be done with it! (see PDLJMPR tech tip)
