Hi ChucK:
In my other car I once had a wooden stick shift knob. However, the lever was to
thin. I than decided to use one of those plastic plugs (in Europe we use them
after you drill a hole in the wall and before you put the screw in). I believe
they are different from the ones you have in the US with all the plaster walls,
but you never know.
Than, it fitted perfectly. I however do not know if this will work if the
internal threads of the knob have gone.
It's probably a 10 cents test.

Subject: 72 Midget Shift Knob
Hi,
The shift knob on my '72 Midget seems to have lost
whatever internal threads it had. While I can't exactly
slide it on and off the lever without turning it, that's
getting close. What I ain't sure of is .. is this the
"original" midget knob? Its round, a black plastic
cylinder tapering at the bottom to meet the gear lever.
Kinda an upside down cone with a cylinder on top. The top
of the knob is a clear plastic lens under which is the
4-speed gear pattern in white on a black background.
Questions:
1. Is this the original
2. If this is the original, any ideas on how to "fix" the
stripped threads?
2. If this is not the original, what does the original look like?
