Daniel,
        I may have over-used the word spring without properly identifying the
antecedent in the following sentence.
There are 2 springs in the valve assembly. The small one controls the rate
of the arm going down (spring in extension), the larger controls the arm
going up (spring in compression).
        The spring being referred to in the parentheses is of course the ROAD
spring. All other uses of the word spring refer to the shock valve spring.
