This is a record of our experience doing front wheel bearings in 1996. Our
car has '67 Mk IV front axles and wire wheels although we do not think this
makes any difference.

The wheel bearings that we got from Moss and VB were FAG #7205S.TVB and #7303B
and we had excessive wheel wobble. We then tried tapered roller bearings from
Car Quest. These bearings have to much offset between the inner and outer race
of each bearing making it impossible to install the washer and cotter key even
with out the center spacer. We still had a one 20+ year old set of original
Ransome & Marles (R&M) bearings, #3MJT17 and #34LJT25. We took these to KAMAN
Industrial Technologies (industrial bearings, gears and so on) who cross
referenced the R&M bearings to NSK thrust bearings #7205BYG ($36.10 ea.) and
#7303BYG ($18.63 ea.) These bearings worked perfectly with no wheel wobble
and we are using the spacer. They are still functioning perfectly after 2 1/2
years and about 7,000 miles.

Axle and hub dimensions.
The axle inner race diameter is 0.997 inches and the width is 0.775 inches.
The axle outer race diameter is 0.662 inches and the width is 0.658 inches.
The distance from the inner end of the outer axle race (start of the axle
taper) to the vertical face where the inner bearing seats is 1.828 inches.
The spacer is 1.335 inches in diameter at the large end, 1.070 inches in
diameter at the small end and 1.504 inches long.
On the hub, the oil seal face is 0.295 inches wide and inner bearing face is
0.904 inches. In the hub the stepped section that corresponds to the space
position is 2.521 inches long.

Hope this helps
