For the washer, I use a common garden hose washer.
If the base is real bad, you will need a new one. The brass/aluminum
react over time and the aluminum just "goes away" (the
engineers/chemists on the list will give you the correct terminology for
this, not me)
I did have a new base made many years ago by a local machine shop.
He made it out of brass so I would not have this reaction in the future.
