Not at present but did a long time ago and it worked.

This doesn't sound like the pump.  If it were the pump you should be able to 
back off, let the fuel level recover and carry on at less revs than before.  
Anyhow, you ought to be be able to manage more rpm than that with an SU pump 
(or equivalent).

You might want to check it is not set too restrictive.
