Caroline,
My 'Caltex lubrication and tune up manual' specifies auto trans fluid, which 
at first seemed odd, but when you think about it, it is a hydraulic system 
so ATF makes sense.
I know there are folks on the list who have experimented with other stuff 
such as motorcycle fork oil.
