Hello Bill,

The books are wrong - there is NO stop light. Not one. There are,
however, TWO flashing lights. We have school flashing lights, and Heaven
help you if Willie (the local constable) finds you violating their message.
His favourite phrase is "Yur not from aroun 'ere, are ye"? That happened
to me once, luckily my insurance had the correct address or I'd probably
have been in the pokey. I think that there is one bar (well ... sometimes
there are two - I suppose it depends on the time of year); five or six
churches; the obligatory schools; various restaurants (of one kind or
another); one motel; various 'gastehauses'; and more antique shops than
anyone needs, The town isn't even incorporated. The nearest large airport
is in San Antonio, but there is a smaller one in Kerrville. Of course,
there are hundreds of private landing strips - even Comfort has one, but it
is of the 'do-it-yourself' variety.

The bat 'Tower' is just a few miles down the road from us, but
................ down a little side road (Good LBC road, that leads to
even more antique shops in Fredericksburg) there is an old railroad tunnel,
which contains _millions_ of them thar bats. We have enough mosquitoes to
feed them too, in the right season.

Comfort was the home town of a controversial bunch of union
sympathisers.
Their history is open to interpretation, but there is quite an active
movement concerning them. Don't show which point of view you might hold
about them in Comfort, you could start a riot.

We live about 8 miles out of Comfort. Apart from the loose livestock on
our road, one should really watch out for other road hazards. Deer in
abundance, especially now the season is over - it is over isn't it Robert?
- armadillos, racoons, turkeys, porcupines and even the odd skunk. Careful
on those moonlit walks.

Are you coming Bill? It is getting to that time when people who are
going
to attend need to be letting me know.
