What causes this problem? It started again today, after the problem was
dormant for a year. The anti-rattle plunger seems to be in place (if I'm
identifying it properly), and nothing seems loose. I took the gearshift
boot apart last year, found no obvious problems, replaced it, and no more
buzz. 2nd and 3rd gear are particularly irritating.
Never got as far as to try Frank's ice cream container solution.
