My stalling problem is much improved. I reread all the posts about
electrical stuff, especially the one where the guy's battery was falling
forward and sparking on the heater fan. I looked at mine close and that
wasn't happening, but I did notice the ground cap could be easily moved, and
the battery itself is a bit smaller than that space, and while I had it
blocked, it could move a little as well. Thinking there might be something
to it, I bought a regular battery terminal end (with a tightening bolt), cut
off that odd "cap" and put on the regular terminal end, firmly blocked in
the battery, and viola, most of the problem solved - it only dies on very
hard braking over a sustained period, huge, huge improvement!! Obviously
the battery was moving and the engine was losing its ground, and dying. I
think the little bit of dying on very hard braking that is left is float
bowl related, and when I switch to the right carb with the aft float bowl, I
think it will go away. Needless to say, I am very happy about this - it's
been dogging me for two years, and I haven't driven the car as much as I
should because of it. This list is awesome! It amazes me the answer was
right in front of me all that time and I couldn't see it.

thanks guys,
