When my BE was built the white wire (-) from the ignition switch went to the
"SW" connection on the coil and the "CB" went from the other pole to the
distributor. This was the positive ground setup. I have reversed the
ground to negative and following the positive to negative conversion
instructions have reversed the white wire (now +) to the "CB" terminal and
the white/black wire to the "SW" terminal. (I've never understood why this
is necessary.****)
Now to my question: I will be installing a new distributor with a Pertronix
unit (L142A) and want to confirm where the red and black wires from the
Pertronix should connect. According to the Pertronix instructions the red
wire should be connected to the + terminal (now the CB terminal) and the
black wire to the - terminal (now the SW terminal) ---- correct? I don't
want to quick fry my investment.
**** the SW and CB terminals feed an internal coil within the coil. A coil
works in both directions. Why does reversing it during the conversion make
it work any differently? Are the internal coil wires use to seeing current
flow in one direction and by reversing it you are upsetting some universal
law written in stone?
