You bring up some good questions.
I do know that the coil will work with either wire on either terminal on
either ground. But, I don't know for how long.
I have mixed them up more then once, when it's wrong, the coil get very
hot in a short period of time. Maybe it does have something to due with
upsetting some universal law written in stone?
To be honest, I don't know.
To ease the confusion on SW and CB, those letters stand for SWitch and
Contact Breaker (aka points) and in your reversed polarity case, Sw is
now points, and CB is now the switch. It is a good idea to try and find
a later coil, they are marked + and -. It just makes it easier in the
future when you forget that your old SW is now you CB and the CB should
go to SW and what ever happened to SB and CW?
