1500 transmission

The lay gear cluster in my gear box has 13 teeth on the gear that matches up
to the reverse idler gear which has 17 teeth which I believe is a "modified"
gear box.  Was the lay gear cluster truly a modified?  Since I have the
reverse idler gear (17 teeth) already I figure I had better have the
modified  lay gear cluster.
