Lots of things. If there was no filter, you may well have a bunch of
rust from the fuel tank in the carb/s. Clean out the float bowls? Also
the jets could be plugged with junk, so clean them too. Then - before
you start it up again - put an inline fuel filter on it. Preferably one of
those clear plastic ones so you can see if more crud gathers in the
filter in the future. You may need to flush your fuel tank out.
 Other things to double check - timing - how old are the plugs? -
what kind of fuel are you using? - Are there any vacuum leaks around
the intake manifold? - how old is hte coil? - is the dwell set correctly?
- when is the last time the capacitor was changed? - What do the
points look like? - Any leaks around the head gasket? - What's the
compression like on all 4 cylinders? - is the hand brake dragging?
