So, after careful consideration, (and thanks to all that chimed in with very
helpful advice). I've decided to go with a 6 gallon 110v (with 3 prong plug)
heater that fits right under the sink. It can be switched on when I need it,
and switched off otherwise. That's more than enough for washing hands, a
bucket of hot water to wash a car, or a whore's bath. It's less than
$150ish, requires no wiring, and takes up very little space.

While I think that a tankless setup would be ideal from a future standpoint,
should I ever install a bathroom out here, at $600 to $1000, it's cost
prohibitive at this time.

Thanks again for your opinions (all of which were remarkably well stated and
intelligent, with only the most minor of smartass content. imagine that?).
