What you actually took to pieces was the clutch slave cylinder. In your
cleaning process you must somehow have go some air in there hence why the
clutch wont work.
You now have the happy task :) of bleeding the clutch hydraulics.

I'm sure some 1500 expert on the list will jump in and here and give you the
lowdown.
