I changed the bonnet hinges on the '58, it looks better now, but the gap at
the scuttle (cowl panel) is ~1/4" all of the way across and at the bottom by
the rocker the gap is ~9/16". The bumpers are squished and aged (surprise!)and
I cannot get the latch plates far enough forward to get the locking pins to
engage. I don't have the packing between the hinges and the bonnet. Are the
squished bumpers keeping the bonnet from pivoting down into place? BTW the
locating pins don't either- I've removed them until I can get it to latch at
least. If I move the bonnet back any more it hits the scuttle when I open the
bonnet.
Now I know what some of the advantages of a forward tilting bonnet are!
