A friend somehow got Historical plates for his 78 Ferrari 308, it was
his daily driver, drove that car everywhere and everyday. When it came
time to sell it, I wanted that car so badly and he kept telling me not
to worry about the plates, just drive it. It was VERY appealing since
it exempted the car from smog tests.
I passed on it and the new owner a few months later got the plates
pulled when he was pulled over at a drunk stop (he was not drunk, just a
Calif. thing where they pull over everyone driving down a road for
license and insurance checks and oh yeah, have you been drinking?). Car
ended up being sold out of state to get plates on it.
The rules for historical plates seem really odd to me if you can get a
1978 car with them and also if you can daily drive with no issues for
several years.
