Rick, not trying to be a smartass here (I don't really need to try), but if
the motion detector is actually a temperature sensor, would it detect a body
when the ambient temperature is about 98.6 degrees? Seems like it would
fail as it neared that temp.

Yes, motion sensors fail. Simpler and probably cheaper to replace it than
trying to fix it.
BTW, most "motion" sensors are actually temperature sensors. They detect
body heat and turn the light on.
