A number of years ago I choose a Miata for my sister to buy. I drove it but
was not inspired. My choice would be a little more practical ......

A early Mini Cooper S (red of course)

(I am biased I had one until my son wanted a car to go with him to college.)

With all of your qualifications, there is still one question not asked, What
color of Miata are you going to get?

.. from what I've read, long distance in a Lotus in not a good thing.

the 49 states. (Hawaii until you build a bridge, you're dead to me! ;) I will
camp most nights, stay with friends some, and a few nights in hotels. I will
likely do it in several regional trips so that I can keep my business afloat.

cost. I can do the trip, I could buy the car, maybe both. I can't afford to
take that car on this trip. Tires, depreciation, maintenance, parts... So back
to planning.

parts arrive. I still think it would be a good choice. A Miata might be
perfect.
