Okay, okay, mea culpa.

I guess I got too excited about my "discovery" of what I THOUGHT
was a Stage I 8 port Mk. I cylinder head.  I could have sworn that
the 10 bolt head was the one used on the early motors, but now I
am feeling embarrassed as H_ll for not having gotten my facts
straight before sending out my earlier inquiry.

So, I guess I am back to plan "A", i.e., simply rebuild the twin
SUs, and have some nice head work done to increase the flow rate,
flame travel, bump up the compression, etc.  I am still confused
though, because it seems as though the part number for the spare 8
port head does not match any of the numbers which Marek and Andy
provided to me in their responses.  Anybody have any ideas why
this is so?  Is it possible the head came off a Herald or some
other Triumph engine with a similar head design, but using
different part nos.?

Since I can't use the Mk III head on my motor, anybody out there
interested in buying a spare head?  It has the valves, springs,
collets, etc. in place, but no rocker arm assembly.  What's it
worth?  I suppose I could always use it as a door stop -- it does
get windy on the SoCal coast from time to time.  (deep sigh).

Oh, BTW, I am going to sell the Datsun Roadster pretty soon.  Any
LBC owners interested in picking up a restored 1600?  It's been
pampered since the resto. work was done about two years ago, but I
have no more room and need the space in order to start the resto.
on the Spit.  Clean, runs strong, silver w/ black interior.  I am
thinking in the $7,500 range for a classic example of early
Japanese driving pleasure.
