Several years ago I wanted to paint my grungy GT6 wheels. Rather than do
it myself, I made a few phone calls. Body shops were generally too
expensive and really didn't want to do them. So I called a couple of
industrial paint shops, half the price of the body shops. They stripped
the wheelsand used an industrial type of epoxy paint. It worked great.
I've had them on my daily driven car for 5 or 6 years and I think I got
one or two chips out of the four wheels. Cost was ~$100 for 5 wheels.

I asked a shop that does powder coating about doing some MGB steel wheels.
The owner wouldn't do them, as he said the powder has a hard time getting
into the narrow seams where parts of the steel wheel are welded together.
The result is a wheel that rusts from the seam. The owner suggested an epoxy
primer and a good coat of paint after chemically cleaning the rust and old
paint off the wheels.
