Ed, he wasn't totally "off the wall" here, although he was close.;-)

Karmann did have a hand in the TR6 in that they did the restyle/
reengineering based on retention of the TR4 inner structure. At the time,
Michelotti was too busy to tackle the job. (That according to various 
Triumph books.)

Beyond that, though, unless you've a 1600cc air-cooled engine in your 
trunk....
