Isopropanol has largely replaced methanol as the common "dry gas"
additive. There are several benefits in the change: isopropanol soaks up
water more effectively than methanol and is not nearly as corrosive. The
down side is the energy content is much lower, so your fuel economy will
suffer. The best time to add alcohol is when the weather turns sharply
colder and water is more likely to condense in the fuel tank.

Winter refuelling tips:
1) Buy gas from a large volume station; less likely to have water laden
fuel and will have "winter" gas with a lower vapor pressure sooner in the
fall.
2) Don't buy gas from a station if you see the tanker there topping up the
supply. This refilling stirs the holding tanks and kicks the water up from
the bottom of the tank.
