I recently put a rebuilt 1500 into my 65 Spit. I am quite happy with it.
Lots of power. Especially in the 3800-4800 RPM range. Pulls hills great.
 Passes freeway traffic with gusto.

Here is what I did:
.020 over on the bores.
Flat top pistons
270 degree cam
Tube exhaust header.
Weber DGV 32/36 carb. (That nifty reliable sequential down draught)
Complete valve job.
.060 milled off the head.

The motor was a 75 originally. I always run good oil and premium gas. I
only wish it had the OD trans, but I am running the single rail trans. Diff
is still the 4.11. Way to low for the power.

Have fun
