My source for this info was direct contact with the people that I knew at the
BL Depot, factory service school, ect. in Brisbane, CA, regarding my care of
a customer's 68 TR4A. It also is documented by a 68 factory handbook sup. (
the wiring diag. also changed) : The cars were all built and imported to the
USA in 1967. (Because of real / or believed regulations / government info)
( my IMHO), the cars were modified in the USA for sale as 1968 compliant
cars. The major modification was a set of very weak dist. advance springs
(diff dist # TR & Lucas) that retarded the stat./idle timing to TDC, from 4
deg before TDC for the early cars & the fitment of SU carb needles "OW" in
place of the previous "2 0" or "TW"
Thus the TR4A could be sold honestly in the USA as an 68 model.

    the above info
