Actually, there's another solution.  TSSC sells conversion brackets
that mount to the frame and extend the shock pickup points out to
almost the same place.  They use a slightly shorter shock, but 
transfer the load to the frame rather than the sheet metal of
the body.  Id' think that these would be worth looking at,
especially for a Spit-6 conversion.
