Jim,
 On TR6,GT6 I know it is only a matter of pulling the rear main cap and
slipping the old thrust washer out and the new ones in and replacing the
main cap.
 On TR6 and GT6, the thrust washers are two half circle washers, one
goes n front and the other behind the last main journal and are held
in place by the main cap.
 Don't  know about Spits. 
 TR3 - 4 are different in that the thrust washer makes the complete
circle on one side of the main journal. It can be changes but is 
considerably more difficult.
