I agree, wish I could find one.  Like you, I bashed and chiseled mine 
off.  The only thing I can see to do is to braze a nut on the inside so 
that I could use a bolt and some positive thread engagement to force the 
cap off.  Now that I've written that, I wish I would have done that on 
the new ones I just installed.

A decent import parts store or probably a Napa will have replacement 
caps.
