This is not necessarily true, the only rubber that we know of (me and
the chemical engineers at work) that would be affected by moisture is EP
(ethyl propalene). standard buna rubber is not affected nor is noryl.
so your assumption that all rubbers are suspect is in error. EP is not
generally used in o-rings/chevron seals where liquid of any sort may
come into contact with it due to it's want to behave like a sponge and
absorb water, thereby decreasing it's sealing ability and causing it to
fail. the only other rubber we have experience with is alcryn, which
isn't exactly rubber and isn't exactly plastic. (actually it's
rubberized plastic) it is subceptable (sp) to chemical attack by
chlorine, gas, oil, you name it. (everything but water). any way, hope
this clears things up. i did as i promised and ran it up the flag pole
and through my books. and we all thought that chemistry class we took
wouldn't do us any good.
