All this talk of making aluminuminuminum stuff for the cars - and the
rivets that go along with such a project - begs the following commentary.
There is a tool known as a "Riv Nut" gun which inserts threadded inserts
into hte work in the same way as a rivet gun. You can then "screw up the
pieces" - as in screw them together. Using small screw threadlocker for
anti vibration purposes, you could make almost anything in any shape.
Assembly would be much easier too. These tools are available at most
industrial supply houses and cost a similar amount to a pro grade rivet gun
- +/- $30 cdn.
Then of course, there's welding. A steel liner on your MIG welder, pure
Argon, 'luminummmmm wire and WOW - aluminum welding. Can use gas torches too.
One final point to TR6 shroud guys - why not loosen the rad off and move
it a bit back when fitting the shroud? You could have a one piece shroud
bent at a sheetmetal house and install it that way. Thin stainless steel -
while expensive and heavier - doesn't need polishing and would look
fantasitc? Or how about magnesium? (sorry to pollute the wheel thread
with sillyness)
