gauges in general

Seems like a lot of ppl are playing around with they're gauges.  Are 
there any good trade secrets out there for taking these things apart and 
cleaning them up.  I'd also like to get an idea on how to replace the 
green filter.  All of my gauges are a sickly white except for the temp.
