Steve:
Years ago I filled my shocks with 90 wt. gear oil.  They still work, but
I've since learned that gear oils will attack the seals in the shock.  So,
I would not do this to NEW shocks.  But, if yours are shot, you might try
this as an INTERIM measure.  My shocks aren't leaking profusely yet.  They
do "seep" a little bit, so that the body of the shock has that barely-damp
look to it and it's covered with dirt and grime.  But no big drips or
anything, and I put the gear oil in there about 10 years ago!
