Tom,

Sounds like you have too much fuel pressure.  Are you running
an electric pump?  If so you probably need a fuel pressure regulator.
I had this problem on my first TR4A, the regulator solved it.
If you have a mechanical pump, I'm stumped.

Hope your repairs came out all right, did you ever find a grille?
