I was very sorry to hear that you were on the receiving end of what seems
to be at best, a case of bad judgment by the seller, and maybe, but we've
got to give the benefit of doubt in that direction for the moment, the
purchaser. It rightly leaves a sour taste in the mouth, but I did want to
reassure you that in some 18 months of active seeking of help, I have
bought things off the Triumph list without a hiccup, and without one
example of the item not being exactly what I had asked for, and at a price
I was very happy to pay (to say nothing of the parts offered for free -
come and get them).
On the other hand, I have got burned on eBay with 2 purchases of triumph
items but that's another story (and a reason I would never buy off eBay any
Triumph item ever again).
This list is, in the main, a sincere group of fellow travelers. We place
our trust in each other by nothing more than email contact, and it usually
works: for example, I have sent items before being paid for them, and have
received many items before I paid in full. And the number of "where is the
person who said they would pay ..." emails seen on the list are very few
and far between, so I think you are in an above average community, with the
odd transgressor, perhaps.
In looking for a silver lining in this sad event (not easy, if you were
looking for an O/D), the seller did at least let you know before you got
there that the tranny had gone. I won't even begin to recount the times I
traveled across the UK to seek out a part for a restoration to find the
person telling me, "well, guv, I sold it last week. I didn't know that you
were still interested ....."
And don't forget, the next parts car will be better anyway.
