Heat equals resistance....I suspect that your negative cable has lost a few
strands of its normally multi-stranded copper conductor.....check the
terminals very carefully for missing strands as well as check the cable (both
cables for that matter0 for kinks or abrasions.
If all is well with the cables, your starter may be drawing higher than
normal current.
