Ronald,

Pack the oil pump with vaseline, it should pick up it's prime right away.
If possible rig up something to turn the pump with befor cranking.  Be sure
to have used plenty of assembly lube on everything.  You could take the
spark plugs out if you need to crank it with the starter to prime the pump.
 If you have a new cam and lifters don't idle it below 2,000 rpm for about
15 - 20 min to properly break them in.
