TR-3 Steering Box Fluif

Hey Listers,
     When I opened my TR-3A steering box I found that it was full of grease
and not heavyweight oil. I mucked out the old grease (fluif?) and refilled
it with fresh synthetic grease. At least it doesn't leak out.
     Any thoughts? Anyone else trying this or has tried and regretted it?
