There's been some discussion about the benefits of mig welding as a viable 
alternative to spotwelding.
I tend to agree with Gary Bouffard. With a little practice I've had some 
pretty good luck with my MIG welder. 
By drilling larger holes in the replacement panel than in the host metal 
you'll be assured of a completely penetrated weld. You really need to make 
sure the panels are as close as you can get them. I know it's difficult to do 
from both inside and outside the car. 
The other alternative is to run a bead from underneath where the replacement 
floor panel meets the host metal.
