This is the way it was explained to me also by a friend who has won
Concours awards with nearly every model of TR known to man (Hi Darrell!).
However, when I finally entered my (admittedly) less-than-Concours pre-
pared TR6 in the Concours at the '99 VTR Nationals, I noted a number of
the judges meticulousy and seemingly gleefully noting every dent and ding
and each bit of road dirt in my engine compartment and marking the car
down accordingly. I did manage a Bronze award (which I am very proud of
since we're talking about a driven car here, not a trailer queen), but I
actually expected to do a little better. This is NOT sour grapes, and
this is NOT a jab at the judges (they're volunteers and do the best they
can), but if this "reasonable amount of points off" is really the rule,
perhaps it should be stated in the VTR Concours rules. On the VTR Con-
cours Judging Form, it shows a "General Deduction" of 15 points (max)
for a "messy or unrestored undercarriage" and another "General Deduction"
of 30 points (max) for "messy or unrestored engine compartment", but I
see no other written guidelines for any other "general deductions". Is
this an item that gets discussed at the Judges meeting prior to the Con-
cours? Just wondering...

                                                       Dennis
