Yes.  You should replace the release bearing (called "throw-out bearing" by
most USA mechanics) whenever you replace a clutch.

This sounds to me like the release bearing is your problem.  If you change
it, you may as well put in a new clutch at the same time, as the replacement
of these parts is not difficult, getting to them is difficult.  You want to
do the whole job at once so that you don't have to take the car apart again
soon.

You should have removed the drive-shaft (propeller shaft in British) first.
The entire transmission, bell-housing and all, must be removed.  I will
leave it to TR6 gurus to give you step-by-step hints.   The basic procedure
will be explained in your shop manual.
