They were changed in '73 to accommodate the J-type overdrive. I don't know
exactly what your options are here, but the '74 tranny (overdrive or not)
won't be just a drop-in to the '72 frame.

Actually, Dan, the non-OD transmission has an adapter bracket for the
revised mount and can be discarded. But as you say, the J-type OD requires
some frame mods for installation.

don't you just unbolt the little crossmember thingy (4 bolts if i remember)
and buy the appropriate one for your tranny (there, i'm learnin 'mur'can)?
if it helps anybody i've still got the 'A' type one from my 72 TR6
