Background:
About a year ago I paid a handsome sum to have the IRS rebuilt on the bare
frame of my '66 TR4A. From the outside it appeared that they did a
marveloes job. No more play after new guts were put in the diff and the new
ujoints and half sharts. Since then the frame has only been pushed on and
off the trailer a few times.

Problem:
Last night I started tearing the IRS back down to replace the stock traling
arm bushes with some dandy poly ones. Step one involved breaking the half
shart flange at the diff. When I removed the last bolt from the right side
about a teaspoon of gear oil dumped on the floor of may garage.

So heres the question.... How or why would gear oil pool near the retaining
bolt? It seems to me a failure between the seal and inner axle shaft would
spill straight down the side of the casing instead.

Anyone on the list ever see this problem on 4A,250 or 6 rear ends?

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thjis would be a good one to
resolve BEFORE the painted body goes back on!
