Currently I am getting no spark from the coil. I purchased a new one
(Lucas
Sports Coil)<snip>
  There are two
white/slate wires coming from the harness that are spliced together to
attach to the - side and a simple white wire that attached to the + side.

What is connected to the distributor? In a simple point system there
should be a wire from the coil (-) terminal to the distributor points. (in
the electronic system there are a couple of wires to the distributor and a
wire to the coil (-). The whitr/slate wire should serve that purpose. The
other white/slate wire probably runs to the tach.

Try this: remove all the connections to the coil (-) terminal and run a
wire from there to the points in the distributor and see if you now get
spark.

Next step: get a volt meter. It is tough enough to diagnose electrical
problems with a volt meter much less without.
