Hi Kelly,
Just did the job this past weekend. I put the front of the car on jack
stands. Take the wheels off. If it is like my TR3 there is a part that
sticks out from the frame that a rebound rubber is bolted to. Take this off
with 2 bolts next to the frame. Undo the 4 nuts at the bottom and the one on
top of the shock, and remove it. Then take the castle nut off the top of the
compressor tool and put it up through where the shock was and put the castle
nut back on over one of the washers and use the pin to lock the nut. On the
bottom I put the large thick piece of metal then the bushing then the
washer, then the regular nut. You have more room to work with the bushing in
place.
In some of these operations I used a floor jack to raise the assembly by
jacking on the rotor. Now tighten the compressor using the bottom nut till
the weight comes off the jack and remove the 6 nuts securing the bottom tray
that holds the spring. Then loosen the compressor and the rotor rests again
on the jack and the spring looses it's tension.
Now all you have to do is reverse the operation with the new spring.
No real biggie. I would though put a little grease on the threads of the
tool to make it easier.
Good luck,
Mike Thompson
