Just a side comment : the phrase "triple plate" does not refer to three
layers of chrome, but instead a layer of copper, then a layer of nickel,
then a layer of chrome. This is the only proper way to do chrome plating,
as chrome will not adhere well to almost anything (including steel and shiny
chrome).

'Proper' rechroming involves removing the previous layers of plate, and
repeating the copper/nickel/chrome process. Some shops will try to put
another layer of chrome over previous chrome, the results are almost always
unsatisfactory. If you've ever seen a bumper with the chrome peeling off in
sheets, showing another layer of chrome, that's the reason.
