Yeah, absolutely. Blacking out under the hood, trunk, etc. is a way to
upgrade appearance a bit without the expense of a repaint. Who cares which
valve cover is on the engine if it works. I've wrapped the steering wheels
with tape when I could not afford anything else. Most of the list does not
remember when we used what we could find to keep the cars on the road. Who
cared? There were NO factory parts and NO Moss or TRF. If it meant you
could drive your car you used it, or went without if necessary. I personally
think any period mod is fine. Thats the way we used our cars, maybe not the
way the factory made them. Most of the restored cars are way to sterile for
me. No personality at all. I recently had a real nice set of Amco rear side
bumper extensions on a TR3 and I used to hear comments about them, 'not
original'. Hey, I wanted a set back in 1962 but I could not afford them. All
this banter gives the impression that less than perfect factory restorations
are pieces of S__T.
I thought only the MG guys were snobs. Nuff for now:} gotta go work on the
Miata.
