So, it's a widegrille TR3 with (possibly?) a 2138 lump under the
bonnet, a dubious valve cover, a fake (?) Coventry registration plate
that's way younger than the car and a limited series commission
number. Why all the fuss? In that respect, it's no more special than a
beam axled 4A - another example of where the US dealer network tried
to persuade Standard Triumph to build the type of cars "it knew the
buyer wanted." While the rest of the world accepted IRS on the 4A with
equanimity from the outset and bought them in large numbers, the US
buyer still had to pay extra for it. Going back to those times, the
sheer number of cars crossing the Atlantic with IRS proved
conclusively over time to many dealers that they had got it wrong -
but there were still moans and bellyaches from a few of the larger
outfits as late as the 250 who still insisted on a beam axle! This
"3B" is nothing more than a sidescreen TR that has survived and will
hopefully find a loving home. Perhaps we can now move on to the
definition of 'picayune' for the benefit of others who are ignorant of
its meaning and may well find it a more interesting thread?
